On May 25, 2010, Gundars Daudze, The Speaker of the Latvian Parliament, addressed invited guests at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia, regarding his visit and participated in a question and answer session with the audience. Speaker Daudze is visiting the United States along with other Baltic and Nordic Speakers. He is scheduled to meet with House leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Foreign Affairs Committee chair Howard L. Berman, as well as Bill Delahunt who is a member of the subcommittee on Europe. One of the purposes of the visit is to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the eight countries with the U.S. as well as to discuss joint opportunities for cooperation in promoting democratization in Eastern Europe, and to discuss cooperation in strengthening energy security.
During the evening event Speaker Daudze took time to congratulate Gustav Plato, Founder and President of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce in the Americas on the founding of the Chamber. He presented Gustav with a special commemorative coin celebrating 20 years of regained independence for the Republic of Latvia. Speaker Daudze encouraged Gustav and the members of the Chamber to use this coin as the foundation for building many years of prosperous trade between Latvia and the United States.
